After a 61-day seasonal fishing ban, over 200 mechanised boats set out to sea from the Thoothukudi fishing harbour in Tamil Nadu and returned with a substantial fish haul, bringing cheer to both fishermen and traders.

The boats, which departed around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, docked back by 9 p.m., carrying tonnes of fish, including sala, uli, paarai, seela, kanava, anthili, and ailai.

The harbour witnessed a high influx of fish for the second consecutive day, leading to brisk trading activity and strong demand from buyers across Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The prices reflected the demand: a basket of sala fetched Rs 2,000, vilai sold for Rs 4,500 - Rs 6,000, anthili for Rs 4,500, paarai for Rs 6,000, and uli for Rs 7,500 - Rs 10,000.

In a significant move to crack down on economic offenders, a coordination meeting between officials of the CBI, the Banking Securities Fraud Investigation Zone, the Finance Ministry's Department of Financial Services, and Chief Vigilance Officers of Public Sector Banks was held here on Tuesday, an official statement said.

During the day-long meeting, all pending matters pertaining to the ongoing Investigation and prosecution of the bank fraud cases being handled by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) were discussed, and several issues were sorted out.

This meeting served as a follow-up to an earlier high-level meeting held on January 30 in Mumbai, whose agenda was to enhance the interdepartmental cooperation and expedite investigations pertaining to bank fraud cases.

During this crucial meeting, detailed presentations were made by the CBI and the public sector banks on relevant operational issues, while any aspects were discussed and resolved.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of pending cases and identified steps to remove bureaucratic hurdles.

J&K administration on Tuesday declared all Amarnath Yatra routes as ‘no fly zones’ between July 1 and August 10 as a security measure to provide foolproof security to the upcoming Yatra.

An order issued by the Home Department said that the Lt Governor (L-G) has given strict security directives regarding aerial activity during the upcoming Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2025, declaring all Yatra routes as “No Flying Zones” between July 1 and August 10, 2025.

Heavy pre-monsoon showers lashed many districts of Rajasthan on Tuesday, giving a sigh of relief to the state, which was reeling under a severe heat wave.

The highest rainfall was recorded in Sikar, which was 74 mm; Ajmer received the second highest rainfall in the state, measuring 46 mm; Kota received the third highest rainfall, measuring 23 mm. Many other districts also received heavy rainfall.

In a serious lapse of court security, a prisoner escaped from Patna Civil Court on Tuesday by cutting handcuffs and fleeing through a toilet window.

The incident has once again put a spotlight on the inadequate security arrangements at the court premises.

The escaped prisoner has been identified as Vikas Kumar, a resident of Rani Talab under Paliganj police station in Patna district.

After seizing properties in Spain, the Enforcement Directorate conducted coordinated multi-city searches across seven locations, including Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai, in a Rs 800 crore illegal forex trading case registered in Pune, an official said on Tuesday.

The ED seized incriminating documents and digital devices during searches as part of an ongoing probe in the case of illegal online forex trading through the international broker -- OctaFx Trading App and website www.octafx.com.

The searches were conducted on Friday at seven locations, including Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Gurgaon under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, the federal agency said in a statement.

The Delhi Police on Tuesday claimed to have cracked a sensitive cyber fraud case, involving two government officials, and made a recovery of over Rs 24 lakh, illegally transferred to a third person, by one of them.

A Kolkata-based individual named Sanjay Chakraborty and Prakash Singh, a government employee posted in the President's Estate, have been arrested for committing UPI fraud and duping another government servant of Rs 24.40 lakh.

In a horrifying incident in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh a 19-year-old student, Malishka Kadera, was shot dead in front of her parents while returning home with them on a motorcycle.

The incident occurred in the Baghchini police station area on the night of June 16, when the family was travelling from Balhera village to their native village, Badarpura.

According to police, four masked assailants intercepted the family’s bike and opened fire on Malishka, killing her on the spot.

The attackers fled immediately after the shooting, leaving the family devastated and in shock and the local community in fear.

Just days after the devastating crash of Air India flight AI-171, another blow struck the Ahmedabad–London route as flight AI-159, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, was cancelled on Tuesday due to a suspected technical fault.

The aircraft, which was scheduled to depart at 1:10 PM, was grounded hours before take-off after routine pre-flight checks flagged the issue.

According to airline sources, the glitch was caught during standard maintenance procedures — a move that potentially averted a major crisis and ensured passenger safety.

However, the abrupt cancellation caused chaos at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, with scores of international passengers stranded, many of them already reeling from anxiety sparked by last week’s tragedy.

This is the second cancellation on the Ahmedabad–London route in just four days.

A portion of a weak three-storey residential building in Dharmi Society of Shahibaug in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, collapsed on Tuesday, prompting an urgent rescue operation by the Fire and Emergency Services.

Officials confirmed that no casualties were reported, as all residents were successfully evacuated in time. The building, a G+3 structure with a makeshift shed on the third floor, had long shown signs of structural deterioration. According to fire officials, cracks had appeared in the upper sections of the building, particularly the third-floor shed, which eventually gave way, causing the roof and a section of the staircase to collapse.

The impact also led to part of the second floor caving in. Alerted immediately, a team from the Shahpur fire station responded swiftly and evacuated 16 residents, including infants, elderly citizens, and families, to a safe location nearby. “The building was in fragile condition for quite some time. We had also informed the local authorities about its danger,” said a senior officer from the fire brigade.
