'No celebration is worth a human life': Rahul terms Bengaluru stampede tragedy heartbreaking

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday termed the tragic stampede near Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium during RCB’s maiden IPL trophy victory celebrations which at least 11 people lost their lives as heartbreaking.

“My condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. Wishing a swift and full recovery to all those injured. In this hour of grief, I stand with the people of Bengaluru,” Rahul Gandhi wrote on X.

"The Karnataka government must provide all possible support and relief to the affected families. This tragedy is a painful reminder: no celebration is worth a human life. Every safety protocol for public events must be reviewed and strictly enforced - lives must always come first," Rahul Gandhi said.

India's mineral production stays on high growth path in FY 2025-26

The production of key minerals in India has continued to witness strong growth during FY 2025-26, after reaching record production levels in FY 2024-25.

The production of iron ore, which accounts for 70 per cent of the total mineral output by value, went up to 289 million metric tonne (MMT) in FY 2024-25, breaking the earlier production record of 277 MMT achieved in FY 2023-24, with a 4.3 per cent growth.

As per provisional estimates for the first month (April) of FY 2025-26, there is a steady increase in the production of these minerals as compared to the production in the corresponding month last year.

Tripura Police detained 13 members of a Bangladesh-based organisation, including two women, and they will be pushed back to their country very soon, an official said on Wednesday.

A police official said that they were arrested after raids by the police from a rented private house at Biswas Para under Amtali Police station in west Tripura late on Tuesday night.

Hectic search for the missing Madhya Pradesh woman continued for the 12th day on Wednesday, even as the body of the woman’s husband was recovered on May 2.

The couple went missing on May 23 while visiting Meghalaya’s Sohra-Cherrapunji areas.

A police official on Wednesday said that the search team, which included National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), have recovered a raincoat from Mawkma village, and it has some stains on it.

“Forensic reports would reveal about the raincoat and the stains. Due to heavy rains, the search operations were disrupted on Wednesday,” the official said.
